Measurement Of Physical Quantities Using Vernier Caliper
Length can be measured Using a Vernier Caliper. Most Students Cant Understand How to use The vernier Caliper.
The First Thing That should be kept in mind is that a vernier caliper has 2 scales. The Main Scale and the Vernier Scale or Moveable Auxilary Scale.
Secondly a Vernier Caliper can only measure up to 10 cm so if the values on the scale are more than 10 than the scale must be in mm.
The Outside Jaws where in the pic it is written Measure OD are used to measure Out side diameter of a 3D Cylinder. The Inside Jaws are Used to measure Internal Diameter of a 3D Cylinder.
Steps For measuring Length through Vernier Caliper :
- Slide the auxilary scale and put the cylinder in between both the jaws and held it tightly.
- Now take the reading on the Main scale. The method to do it is to read the the number before the 0 or with the 0 on the vernier scale.
the third step is to take the reading on the vernier scale. 1 on the vernier scale represents 0.1 mm. the way to read the vernier scale is is to find the line on the vernier scale coinciding with the line on the main scale.
The reading of the line Coinciding with the line on the main scale here is 0.25 mm.
Now add the total value on the main scale and the valur of the vernier scale to obtain the result.
16+0.25=16.25mm
OR
1.6+0.025=1.625cm
